Hope Town is located on the island of Elbow Cay in the chain
of islands known as The Abaco Islands of The Bahamas.
Known for its colonial style cottages, laid back atmosphere,
famous candy striped lighthouse, Hope Town is a must see
tourist destination. The Elbow Reef Lighthouse is one of a
few hand wound lighthouses that still exist. For
economic reasons, most of the lighthouses have been
converted to solar power and are set to automatically turn
on at dusk and turn off at dawn. A lighthouse keeper
still resides on site and each night is responsible to
ensure the kerosene is full, the lamp ready, and the
mechanics are in working order.
The settlement of Hope Town is primarily a pedestrian
only zone with special permission given to delivery
vehicles. The historic village is full of pastel
colored cottages that line a scenic protected harbour.
While visiting the settlement you can rest your feet and and
grab a bite to eat in one of the fine island restaurants
such as Cap'N Jacks, Hope Town Harbour
Lodge, Abaco Inn, Sea
Spray Resort, or the
Harbours Edge.
As you travel south of the settlement you will pass
through residential neighborhoods of the local residents.
Abaco Inn and Sea Spray Resort are a short ride from the
village while traveling even father south you will find the
beautiful Tahiti Beach.
Elbow Cay is abundant with vacation homes and tourism.
This beautiful paradise has miles of beaches, a protected
harbour for your yacht or sailing vessel, fine dinning, and
a comfortable family environment.
